I'm on a mission.

Starting today, I will learn and KNOW Radiohead lyrics.

They are my favorite band of all time. I love them and their music more than any person could possibly try to describe. I know 99.9 percent of their songs from beginning to end with precision. Every note, every pause and every build up. But for the life of me, I probably couldn't sing along to any of their songs. The style of their music gets me completely lost in the sounds--how beautiful every sound is. I never pay attention to the lyrics. I mean, the way Thom sings isn't exactly perfect enunciation either. Every once in a while I'll read their lyrics somewhere and realize how amazing they are and I feel like a complete idiot for not knowing that they are Radiohead lyrics.

That will change starting today.

Along with that mission, I have many others. I started working on my novel again. I'm pretty sure I've got a solid first chapter for now. Nothing is permanent, especially with writing, so I'm sure the more I write chapter, the more I'll go back and change things. I've only got two chapters done and the first one has already changed dramatically from my first draft. I'm happy where it's at for now. Then comes rewriting chapter 2. Then of course the rest of the story.

I don't really know where it's going or exactly what story I want to tell. I just know very specific things I want to include and I know how I want it all to tie in together as a big piece. It's the smaller pieces I haven't really figured out yet. I'm hoping they'll sort of figure themselves out the more I write.

To whomever who reads this blog, here is the link to the work in progress.

I would really GREATLY appreciate it if you made an account and left me feedback. The website is really cool so I'm sure you'd get really good use out of it outside my project.

In the process, I have another excellent idea for my second book. It will be a much more surreal and possibly science fiction type of book. I've really been drawn to Vonnegut as of late and the way he tells things brings out this spur of ideas in me. A lot of it has to do with this meld between my nature to write more abstractly and poetically but bringing an actual story, possibly metaphorical, to the mix. I would share more of the ideas, but I'd rather wait until I actually start writing something for it. I plan on incorporating images into the book, which is a practice that not only Vonnegut uses but also the beloved Johnathan Safran Foer uses. They're going to be hand drawn intricate pastel drawings of different doors. It has to do with the concept of the story. Don't worry, more will come.

Summer is amazing. It's like all the time in the world is mine.

  1. I think I came across your webook account a while back and I've always wanted to tell you how much I LOVE that you are writing this. I think you are the perfect person to shed more light on a topic that is so common yet strangely kept in the dark. Its really great from what you've posted so far :)
